Simon is a working documentary director with a string of credits to his name, and runs his own production company Mostly Movies. He has made science & history documentaries for anyone who would pay him and  became the original producer on Nova for WGBH Boston, and edited Horizon and QED and much else for the BBC, which has taken him all around the world. For the Guild he wrote the television industry Code of Practice for Factual Directors and negotiated it through with the broadcasters and PACT in the Directors Forum, before doing a two-year turn as Guild Chair from 2002 to 2004.

In recent years he has revived the Directors Guild Trust and is still the Trust Secretary and 'correspondent ' Trustee.
