UK premiere of ADVANCED TOOLS OF DIRECTING by SIMON PHILLIPS
One-day DGGB workshop, Saturday 30th January 2010 - Shaw Theatre, London
As you may already know, the Guild has some special events planned for the New Year. Our first is a one-day seminar on Saturday January 30th at the Shaw Theatre, London, premiering a radical new approach to directing. Simon Phillips is a Direction Coach for feature film directors and script development. Tools of Directing has been presented in the USA and Europe, and the Guild is very proud to be the first to showcase Simon’s methods here in the UK.
Tools of Directing is aimed at directing for the camera, and the basic principles work equally well for working with scripts and performers on stage.
“My introduction to Tools of Directing was a kind of crash course really. I grabbed what I could. In practice, however I found that Simon’s suggestions stuck throughout the process. This clutch of tools contributed hugely to what I believe to be courageous and true achievements of the actors in Kingsland.” Tony Grisoni, Writer (whose directing debut was nominated for a BAFTA award 2009)
“With Tools of Directing, the development of scripts stays focused on the changes within and between characters, which both reveal character and move the story forward.” Linda Seger, Script Consultant and Author‘How To Make A Good Script Great’
“The Advanced Tools of Directing” contents include:
- Defining the tools of directing
- Creative reading of a script
- Finding the points of emotional change
- Casting and how to quickly discover; can I direct this actor?
- Rehearsal planning
- Where to put the camera to create emotion
- How to create magic by misdirection
